Dwyer’s Wiley Inman makes birdie putt at 3A Golf State Championship

Wylie Inman was one of the best golfers on the day and helped Dwyer keep pace at the top of the leaderboard.

  • The Dwyer boys golf team won the first state championship in school history.
  • Dwyer finished 17 strokes behind the second-place team, Fletcher High School.
  • Senior Hampton Beebe was the tournament’s top individual player with a score of 4 under.
  • The team overcame cold and windy conditions to achieve a historic victory.

HILLS IN THE HILLS — Dwyer boys golf powered through the field at Mission Inn Resort + Club this week to win the first state championship in program history.

The Panthers (587) were 17 strokes better than second-place Fletcher (Neptune Beach), who overcame a cold and windy opening day to take the championship.

Hampton Beebe, who has signed with Auburn University, had the lowest individual player of the tournament with a two-day total of 140 (4 under), while fellow senior Wiley Inman, who has signed with South Florida, tied for fourth with 147 (3 over).

“They’re definitely the two leaders on the team,” Dwyer head coach Eric Fasson said. “Everyone gravitates towards them on and off the track, and today they showed up.”

If he had been bowling, Tankun Ritshorn would have been feasted on turkey. As the junior finished his performance with three consecutive birdies, it was the epitome of Dwyer’s fearless “Mamba spirit” in the face of pressure to capture a historic victory.

“Birdie, birdie, birdie,” Rithorn said. “It feels great. We’re Dwyer’s first state champions. Now we’re going to go to the gym. It’s great.”

For the Panthers, sophomore William Cui, who shot 151 (7 overs), and Tristan Rodenizer, who shot 163 (19 overs), took third place.

“We had fun there,” Fason said. “Today was all about having fun and not being nervous, just knowing we could do what we could.”

This is a developing story.
