  • Manchester United have no plans for reinforcements in January
  • Red Devils are dealing with Sesco’s injury

Manchester United are preparing for a difficult period this winter as the African Cup of Nations threatens to strip Ruben Amorim’s side of several key first-team players.

According to The Sun, the club plan to rely heavily on academy talent in December and January, rather than entering the transfer market looking for short-term reinforcements.

United will lose their current top scorer Brian Mbeumo, as well as Amad Diallo and Nouser Mazraoui, who are set to feature for the national team at AFCON.

With the tournament starting in mid-December and the final scheduled for January 18, the trio could be sidelined for up to six weeks depending on each country’s progress.

Manchester United have no plans for reinforcements in January

However, despite these departures, Man United have reportedly decided not to rush into making emergency reinforcements in January, particularly in the forward areas.

Instead, Amorim is said to be prioritizing the club’s long-term plans to strengthen its midfield in the summer, with United hoping to add at least one potential player.

This approach means that space opens up for some promising young players. Academy forwards and attacking midfielders are expected to be integrated into the first team’s match day squad early, giving them a rare opportunity to make a positive impression at the top level.

United’s academy has produced elite talent over the years, from Marcus Rashford to Koby Mainu, but Amorim is known for his faith in young players, having consistently relied on him at Sporting CP before taking over at Old Trafford.

Another factor influencing United’s cautious approach in the market is Benjamin Sesco’s position. The Slovenian international is the club’s main number nine, but this season has already suffered setbacks due to injury.

The paper said that although United do not intend to sign a striker in January, part of the academy’s plans is to ensure that Sesco is properly compensated if his injury proves to be serious.

Rather than a temporary solution, the focus is on providing a platform for young players, managing the squad wisely and ensuring future transfer windows are used strategically.

With AFCON just around the corner and a tricky festive fixture schedule ahead, Manchester United’s young players will get a chance to prove themselves in the near future.
