Aston Villa recently suffered a crushing defeat against Everton in the Premier League, and manager Unai Emery has revealed that they are not even in the running for a top-five finish this season.

Villa currently sit third in the league table and have had an impressive run in recent months. However, the Spanish manager was clearly frustrated by the defeat and probably feels that his team’s lack of depth and quality prevents them from continuing their recent form.

Did Unai Emery leave in frustration?

Aston Villa are unlikely to be able to improve their squad as much as the Premier League powerhouses, and that could have a big impact on how the season ends.

Former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce claimed his post-match comments suggested Emery could eventually leave Aston Villa to face his future. He fears the Spanish manager is frustrated by the West Midlands club’s limited resources and feels he cannot lead the team any further.

The former City manager told talkSPORT:

“If you look at the bench over there, they are not that strong compared to other teams, especially Arsenal and Man City, so his hands are tied.

“We don’t know whether the future frustration of not being able to lead the team any longer is too much for him and what impact it will have on him and his job situation going forward.

“Because he certainly warns that many clubs have good managers.”

Europe’s top clubs are monitoring his situation closely and it would be no surprise if they make offers for Emery in the future.

He is a good manager who has been at multiple clubs and they may be trying to lure him away from Aston Villa. It would certainly be a huge blow for English clubs, but they just don’t have the resources to compete regularly with elite clubs.
