TURIN, Italy — Carlos Alcaraz was all smiles on Friday as he held up the year-end No. 1 tennis player trophy.

After a fierce battle with Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz secured his ranking on Thursday by winning all three group stage matches at the ATP Finals.

The 22-year-old Spaniard was presented with the trophy at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, just before the match between Sinner and Ben Shelton.

“I’m very happy to be No. 1 in the world again,” Alcaraz said. “That’s something that I work hard on every day with my team. To be honest, that’s a goal, but I don’t think it’s a journey that you go through alone.

“It’s with your whole team, your family and your loved ones who are behind you and always support you through the hard times and the good times.”

This is the second time in Alcaraz’s career that he has finished at the top of the annual rankings.

He achieved the feat in 2022 at the age of 19, making him the youngest player to win first place in a year.

“In 2022 we can get our first trophy again and I have the same team. I’m still really proud of the team I have,” Alcaraz added.

“So for me, this is a great accomplishment. Honestly, this means the world to me and I’m really proud and happy.”
