In search of an attacking spark, Everton are now reported to be joining Newcastle United in the race to sign young Brazilian star Alan Elias from Palmeiras in 2026.

The Toffees have had a shaky season so far, but they entered international action with a 2-0 win against Fulham. For the most part, David Moyes’ side showed potential, even if they didn’t blow teams away.

However, it must be said that their weaknesses were obvious from the beginning of the campaign. Everton cannot send a striker in front of goal. After making Tierno Barry one of their most expensive signings, Merseysiders would have expected at least a goal or two by now. But so far, he has yet to find the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Beto is also struggling. The towering forward showed signs of promise last season, particularly under Moyes, but has scored just two goals in 13 games in all competitions so far.

The Friedkin Group also seems to be running out of patience with strikers. According to recent reports, Everton are interested in adding to their attack power in the January transfer window, with Joshua Zirkzee and Daenen Maeda both linked with signings.

The latter would be a particularly impressive signing considering he scored a Celtic-record 33 goals last season. He now appears keen to leave the Scottish club, with Everton reportedly open to a deal for just £15m.

Sadly, the Japanese international isn’t the only attacking spark on the Toffees’ shortlist, and the players who serve Beto and Barry could also make some improvements. New headlines from Brazil suggest those at Hill Dickinson Stadium are now looking for a South American gem.

Reports in Brazil via Sport Witness suggest that Everton have joined the race to sign Allan ahead of Newcastle. The 21-year-old has impressed for Palmeiras, assisting eight goals this season and could spark Moyes’ front line.

To many, Allan will be an unknown talent, but the impressive performances he enjoyed off the bench at last summer’s Club World Cup are worth noting. Playing against Chelsea and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, the young Brazilian more than showed what he is capable of.

The 21-year-old has received much praise during his time in Palmeiras, with manager Abel Ferreira telling reporters: “It’s hard to leave out names like Veiga, Mauricio and Murillo, but Alan comes in and gives us great dynamism. He’s a machine.”

The claim that Palmeiras had a release clause worth €100m (about £88m) in Allan’s contract shows how highly they value him, which could be a problem for Everton.

Friedkin was going to spend a lot of money last summer, but mostly on proven European talent rather than betting on unknowns. At this stage, it seems unlikely that the Toffees will spend £88m on Allan.
