  • Man City keen to sign U17 World Cup star Mohamed Zongo
    • Man City and Pep keen to sign Real Madrid star, possible swap for Erling Haaland

Manchester City are expected to be on the market in the near future and could beat rivals Manchester United to sign the teenage sensation who featured in the Under-17 World Cup.

Manager Josep Guardiola will be hoping his team can fight for the Premier League title this season. However, they suffered a setback on their path to potential glory with defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday night.

Harvey Barnes’ double canceled out Ruben Diaz’s equalizer at St James’ Park, but the Citizens were sluggish in front of goal and were left to regret their missed chances, something Guardiola pointed out in his post-match speech.

He said: “Newcastle are a top team, top players and top manager so unfortunately we couldn’t create the momentum that we had tonight. It was an interesting game and we both had chances but then the momentum changed and in the end we couldn’t win.”

After all, there is still plenty of football to be played and there will be twists and turns before the race for the Premier League title begins to take a clear path. Still, Manchester City are currently trailing Arsenal and Chelsea and will need to improve this situation in the coming weeks.

Nico O’Reilly’s emergence into the Citizens’ first-team squad and the addition of Matheus Nunez at right-back suggest that Guardiola is unable to find a solution, but January looks set to be an important month to wrap up some meaningful work.

While bringing in senior players will be a priority, recent developments could also focus on signing future stars at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City keen to sign U17 World Cup star Mohamed Zongo

According to Africa Foot, Man City are keen to sign Tenacour Academy star Mohamed Zongo, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United, Villarreal and Anderlecht following his impressive performance at the Under-17 World Cup.

On the biggest stage of his generation, the 15-year-old scored two goals and provided three assists from his attacking midfield role, and the Citizens have now begun negotiations with the trio mentioned.

Described as “magical” by Under-23 football scout Antonio Mango, he could be the next exciting addition in Manchester City’s long line-up, but no clubs have agreed to a deal after his exploits at the Youth World Cup.

Either way, beating Manchester United on his signature would be a sign of Manchester City’s intentions to build for the future at the Etihad Stadium.
