Leeds select first manager candidate as manager Farke nears sacking

Leeds United are struggling to maintain their form and may have found a successor to replace Daniel Farke at Elland Road.

Los Blancos returned from the international break looking for an improvement in form. However, despite taking an early lead against West Yorkshire thanks to a Morgan Rodgers double, they were blamed for the heavy defeat at home to Aston Villa.

If that wasn’t already a difficult case to make, the pressure on Farke has increased even more now that Leeds are in the Premier League relegation zone, with the grim reality of facing Manchester City this weekend.

However, the former Norwich City manager doubled down on the frustration of supporters who chose to take substitute Ao Tanaka off against Aston Villa, insisting the midfielder had to be sent off as he had received a final caution before receiving his red card, despite complaints from the stands.

He told BBC Sport: “I have no problem with fans chanting for players. Everyone has an opinion on the changes and the way the game is run. But I don’t do roundtables or votes before each game. You can’t get carried away by emotion and you can’t put a player in the 55th or 60th minute just because someone is singing.”

The arrival of Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García could provide reinforcements for Falke, but a series of disappointing results has raised the possibility that he will part ways with the club.

Mid-season changes can have mixed results, but there is no doubt there is an appetite for change within the club, and this is not the first time the 49-year-old has come under scrutiny. Who could replace him at Elland Road? Fans may soon find out.

Leeds appoint Brendan Rodgers to replace Daniel Farke

According to TEAMtalk, former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is considered to be the favorite to replace Falke at Leeds, with the Whites’ current manager at increased risk of being sacked due to the team’s poor performance.

Interestingly, the Irishman is open to taking charge at Elland Road and is hard to ignore given his ability to energize a struggling side.

Stiliyan Petrov praised Rodgers’ player development skills during his time in Glasgow, which will no doubt endear him to Leeds support who are used to seeing local and academy talent emerge from Thorpe Arch.

Last season alone, he led Celtic to the knockout stages of the Champions League, defeating the likes of RB Leipzig, but the team was unlucky not to advance, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.

Nevertheless, his public falling out with Dermot Desmond means he is a free agent, and Leeds could use his Premier League experience with Swansea City, Liverpool and Leicester City to help them save the day.
