Redwings’ Defensive Errors Lead to Downfall Against Underdog Predators

The Detroit Red Wings were expected to easily defeat the Nashville Predators, who came into Wednesday’s game with the NHL’s worst record and the lowest goals-per-game average. However, as the saying goes, games aren’t won on paper. The Predators mounted a comeback in the third period, scoring twice within a minute to secure a 6-3 win at Little Caesars Arena, handing the Red Wings a frustrating loss.

Nashville took the lead 20 minutes into the game, but power-play goals by Alex DeBrincat and James van Riemsdyk in the second period pushed Detroit ahead 2-1 going into the final minutes. Nashville tied the game at 3-3 with Nick Blankenburg scoring on a partial breakaway, quickly followed by Roman Josi’s goal. Detroit briefly regained the lead as Ben Chiarot netted his second goal in three games.

However, the Predators responded strongly in the third period. Ryan O’Reilly scored a wraparound goal at 14:14 after a pass from Steven Stamkos, and Eric Haula extended the lead to 5-3 just 38 seconds later. Stamkos sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the closing moments.

Red Wings goalie Cam Talbot has struggled, losing two straight games and conceding nine goals over those matches while making 23 saves Wednesday. Nashville’s Justus Anunen, who had yet to win this season, saved 28 shots and earned his first victory. Detroit also played without defenseman Simon Edvinsson for the third consecutive game due to illness.

This loss is a tough blow for the Red Wings, especially in games they cannot afford to drop as they look to progress as a team.

Fan Take: This unexpected win for the Predators is a reminder that underdogs can never be counted out, keeping the NHL exciting and unpredictable. For hockey fans, it signals that every game matters and surprises can happen anytime, adding to the thrill of the sport.
