Spurs Boss: Booing Isn’t a Sign of True Fans and Is Simply Unacceptable

Manager Thomas Frank has criticized Tottenham supporters for booing Guglielmo Vicario during the team’s 2-1 home loss to Fulham, labeling the behavior as “unacceptable”.

In a challenging match, Spurs conceded two goals within the first six minutes, marking their third consecutive defeat following significant losses to Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. The second goal was a result of a surprising error from goalkeeper Vicario.

Just 136 seconds elapsed between Kenny Tete’s deflected strike in the fourth minute and Harry Wilson’s impressive lob. The latter occurred after Vicario inexplicably cleared the ball toward the center instead of throwing it, leaving him vulnerable.

Vicario faced boos from the crowd multiple times before halftime after he touched the ball.

Mohamed Kudus managed to net one for Tottenham in the 59th minute, but the ending lacked excitement as his team watched Frank endure their fourth defeat in six Premier League matches.

“Conceding two goals in six minutes is indeed a daunting challenge. This often happens in a tough stretch, where everything seems to go against you. The first goal was deflected, and the second was ultimately Vicario’s error. These things happen,” Frank said.

“I was disappointed with how the fans reacted. Booing him repeatedly after he touched the ball is not acceptable to me. If we want to improve, unity is crucial during matches. We need to support each other,” Frank remarked.

“Additionally, I felt we rushed our play in the first half, likely due to the shock of conceding two early goals.”

Vicario found himself in the spotlight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid another tough day for Spurs, who have managed to win only three of their last 21 league matches. He remarked that being booed is “part of football”.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It’s part of football. I’m old enough to know that I can’t let the fans’ reactions affect me. They have the right to express their feelings; we just need to focus on our game plan and strengths.”

Meanwhile, it was a significant night for Marco Silva, who celebrated his 200th match as Fulham’s manager with a triumphant performance.

“This is a big win for us and a notable milestone for me and my staff. Scoring two early goals boosted our confidence significantly,” Silva commented.

“With Tottenham’s recent struggles at home, we recognized this as a prime opportunity to improve our away performance.”

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the intense pressure and scrutiny faced by players and managers in high-stakes matches. The reactions of fans can shape a team’s morale and dynamics, underscoring the importance of support during difficult times in the sport.
