Charles Oliveira Shares Latest on Target Date for BMF Title Clash with Max Holloway

Following his emotional triumph in Rio, Charles Oliveira has announced his intention to pursue a BMF title bout against Max Holloway next.

In October, Oliveira made his much-anticipated return to the Octagon in Rio, decisively defeating Mateusz Gamrot in the second round. This comeback was met with mixed reactions, as just months earlier, Oliveira suffered a brutal knockout at the hands of Ilya Topuria in a fight for the vacant lightweight title.

Despite that setback, “de Bronx” has expressed a clear ambition to challenge Max Holloway for the BMF title—a move that has sparked some debate among fans.

UFC President Dana White recently revealed the lineup for UFC 324, the promotion’s inaugural event at Paramount. While the interim lightweight title clash between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje drew criticism from fans, rumors of a BMF title fight between Oliveira and “Blessed” surfaced briefly on UFC Brazil’s social media before being deleted. Addressing the confusion, Oliveira confirmed via Instagram that the match with Holloway won’t happen in January but is expected to take place around March or April, emphasizing mutual interest from both fighters and fans alike.

Oliveira and Holloway first crossed paths in 2015, but their initial encounter ended controversially after just over a minute. Oliveira claimed a neck injury causing the fight to stop, but subsequent medical checks found no injury, leading some fans to unfairly brand him as a quitter for years.

Fan Take: This potential BMF title fight between Oliveira and Holloway is highly significant for fight fans as it not only promises a thrilling rematch but also offers Oliveira a chance to redeem himself and solidify his legacy. Such high-stakes bouts continue to raise the sport’s excitement and competitiveness, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what’s next in MMA.
