Newcastle United are reportedly planning on signing the Premier League rival, who is currently on ice at his current club.

Wisa: Newcastle debut will take ‘a long time’

Yoan Wissa finally made his Newcastle debut against Burnley. The former Brentford star joined in the summer for a whopping £55 million, making him one of the club’s most expensive signings in the club’s history, but was immediately injured on international duty. Well, his wait is over and he finally steps into St. James’s Park.

Speaking to Full Time reporters, Wissa admitted that his debut had been a “long time coming”, telling reporters: “It’s been a long time. In the last 11 weeks, I’ve learned about the team and the players.

“It’s been a long road, but I’m happy in the end. I got goosebumps (reading his name when he came on). I’m excited now. We have a lot of quality players, so it could be a great season.”

Eddie Howe was also pleased with the forward’s performance, but insisted Wissa still has “a lot of work to do”.

The Newcastle manager said: “He has a lot of work to do to reach the highest level possible. We want to manage him correctly and keep him available.”

Fewer touches and one duel win than Ramsdale: Newcastle star could drop out

The Newcastle star struggled in the 2-1 win over Burnley.

“It’s difficult when the games keep coming and we have to train him and build up his fitness for every game schedule. So it’s going to be a very delicate balance for us, but hopefully we can find a solution.”

Meanwhile, there are reports that Newcastle are plotting a deal to sign Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, meaning a new player could be on the pitch for the first time, while another could also be introduced.

Newcastle plot move for Axel DiSasi

As reported by Caught Offside, Newcastle are currently planning a concrete move to sign DiSasi from Chelsea in the January transfer window. The defender was dumped by manager Enzo Maresca and forced to join the club’s so-called bomb squad alongside Raheem Sterling and others. But now he could get a much-needed move in January.

For Newcastle, a move for the disadvantaged Chelsea player would provide vital depth in Howe as Sven Botman continues to struggle with injury.

The Dutch player is talented, but his injury history has put him at a bit of a disadvantage recently. The Magpies may be able to get away with giving him a stable partner as Malik Thiau continues to nail down his starting spot. That’s where Disasi could come into play.

Disasi, who Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher described as “fantastic” in 2024, hasn’t played all season for Chelsea but will be doing everything he can to make his mark and Newcastle should take full advantage of that.
