Paddy Pimblett Reveals Bold Strategy Against Justin Gaethje, Defying Advice and Stunning Fans

Paddy Pimblett is ready to embrace risk in his first UFC title bout.

Known as “The Buddy,” Pimblett has been awarded a controversial chance at the interim lightweight championship in 2026, facing off against Justin Gaethje in a highly anticipated fight to kick off the new year for the UFC.

Dana White confirmed that Gaethje vs. Pimblett will headline UFC 324 on January 24th, marking their first main event appearance on Paramount+. The decision to grant Pimblett a title opportunity, especially over top contender Arman Tsarukyan, stirred debate among fans and insiders. However, Pimblett remains confident, determined to capitalize on the moment by defeating Gaethje, though he plans to win in a surprising way.

Despite Gaethje’s reputation as “The Highlight,” Pimblett insists he won’t merely grapple but aims to knock Gaethje out, defying expectations. He even predicts Gaethje won’t last beyond the third round, expressing bold confidence ahead of the fight.

Gaethje has twice fallen short of winning the undisputed lightweight belt, both times due to vulnerabilities in his ground game. After capturing the interim title in 2020, he was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov and later by Charles Oliveira in 2022. Given Pimblett’s fighting background, many see his path to victory as clear, but Pimblett’s aggressive knockout mindset sets him apart.

Interestingly, Eddie Alvarez, one of Gaethje’s former rivals, suggests Pimblett should focus more on jiu-jitsu to exploit Gaethje’s ground game weaknesses – a strategy that worked for Nurmagomedov and Oliveira. Alvarez points out that while Pimblett can be prone to mistakes and getting knocked out, his skill in chaotic scrambles could be key to capitalizing on Gaethje’s jiu-jitsu vulnerabilities.

Fan Take: This matchup represents more than just a title fight; it could reveal whether bold aggression or technical ground skills dictate the future of lightweight competition. UFC fans should brace for an electrifying clash that might reshape how fighters approach championship bouts going forward.
