The Orioles have officially signed former Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. The announcement was made on Thursday, and Alonso expressed his gratitude to New York and the fans via social media. He shared a slideshow highlighting his top moments both at bat and in the field, thanking Mets fans, coaches, and staff for their support throughout his seven-year MLB career.

In his message, Alonso emphasized how much New York shaped him, stating, “Thank you New York. These past few years have shaped me for the rest of my life.” He reflected on the high expectations of the city and expressed pride in having earned the right to wear the Mets jersey. Alonso also acknowledged the teammates, coaches, trainers, and staff who influenced his growth both as a player and as a person, expressing deep gratitude for those who challenged and supported him.

He thanked the fans for their enthusiasm, passion, and even the tough love that comes with playing in New York. He appreciated their energy from events like the first pitch ceremony to every time he stepped up to bat, recognizing how much their support motivated him. Alonso closed his note affectionately, signing off as “Polar Bear.”

Originally drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2016 draft, Alonso made an explosive MLB debut in 2019 by hitting 53 home runs, setting a rookie record and securing the National League Rookie of the Year award. Over seven seasons, he became the Mets’ top power hitter, posting a batting line of .253/.341/.516 with 264 home runs, 183 doubles, and 712 RBIs in 1,008 games. Notably, in 2025, he set a new franchise record for home runs.
