What’s the Home Run Forecast for Kyle Schwarber in His New Phillies Deal?

Kyle Schwarber has signed a five-year, $150 million deal at the Winter Meetings, securing his place with the Phillies through 2030. Now in his fourth year with Philadelphia, this tenure will surpass his six years with the Cubs, making the Phillies the team he spends the most time with in his career. Known for his powerful hitting, Schwarber has consistently delivered home runs well into his 30s, sparking curiosity about his potential impact on the Phillies’ all-time records.

In 2023, Schwarber hit a personal best of 56 home runs and will be 33 by 2026. While hitting 50 homers annually might be ambitious, even if younger, he has averaged 43.8 home runs per season since leaving the Cubs in 2021. Over the past five years, he ranks third in MLB with 219 homers, trailing only Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.

Optimistically, Schwarber could continue at this pace for another five years, totaling 438 home runs in a decade. A more cautious projection estimates him at 80% of that, around 175 homers over five years, averaging 35 per season—still a strong performance with room for potential decline. Currently, Schwarber’s 187 home runs in four years with the Phillies rank 12th in franchise history, just behind Bobby Abreu’s 195. He could surpass 10th place, held by Dick Allen with 204, soon.

The Phillies’ top 10 home run leaders are:

1. Mike Schmidt – 548
2. Ryan Howard – 382
3. Del Ennis – 259
4. Pat Burrell – 251
5. Chuck Klein – 243
6. Chase Utley – 233
7. Greg Luzinski – 223
8. Cy Williams – 217
9. Jimmy Rollins – 216
10. Dick Allen – 204

Though passing Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, the all-time Philadelphia leader, is unlikely, Schwarber could move up to second place by overtaking Ryan Howard. Whether Schwarber can add another 361 home runs during his career remains uncertain but not impossible if he maintains his performance as he ages.

On the MLB all-time home run list, Schwarber currently stands 111th with 340 career homers. If he hits 35 homers annually over the next five years, he would reach 375 career home runs, ranking 81st all-time, near legends like Rocky Colavito and Carlton Fisk. With 175 additional homers, Schwarber would also become the 29th player to surpass 500 career home runs, placing him 23rd on the all-time list, just ahead of Ernie Banks but trailing greats like Ted Williams and Frank Thomas.

If Schwarber continues his recent impressive pace, he could finish with 559 home runs, surpassing Manny Ramirez and approaching Reggie Jackson’s 15th place all-time rank. Regardless of exact figures, Schwarber’s new contract means every home run he hits pushes him closer to a historic legacy. His ability to maintain power with age and experience suggests he could remain a dominant force for years to come.

Fan Take: Kyle Schwarber’s commitment to the Phillies not only cements his role as a key power hitter but also energizes the franchise’s pursuit of offensive dominance. For baseball fans, his continued success could bring thrilling moments and elevate the historic significance of the Phillies’ lineup for years ahead.
