The Los Angeles Sparks recently announced changes to their coaching staff for the 2026 season, blending returning personnel with new faces. Second-year head coach Lynn Roberts will continue leading the team, accompanied by returning assistant coach Zach Vancik. Joining them are newcomers Ebony Hoffman and Zach O’Brien.

Zach Vancik, who joined the Sparks as a player in 2025, has coaching experience from his time with the Dallas Wings over the last three years. With over a decade of coaching under his belt, including a stint as an assistant coach at the University of Texas at Arlington and working as a WNBA trainer during offseasons, Vancik has contributed significantly to the team’s growth. Before joining the Sparks, he coached players like Dearika Hamby and Ray Burrell during Unrivaled’s inaugural season. His efforts helped the Sparks improve their 2025 season record to 21-23, a notable increase of 12 wins from the previous year.

The coaching staff is further strengthened by Ebony Hoffman, a former WNBA player with 11 seasons playing for the Indiana Fever, Connecticut Sun, and Los Angeles Sparks. Hoffman returns as an assistant coach after spending three seasons coaching the Seattle Storm. Expressing enthusiasm for the role, Hoffman praised Lynn Roberts’ vision and commitment to upholding the organization’s championship legacy. During her playing career, Hoffman earned the WNBA MVP award in 2008 and was a three-time All-Pac-10 Conference player at the University of Southern California.

Lastly, Zach O’Brien joins the Sparks after contributing to the New York Liberty’s 2024 championship-winning coaching staff. Previously, he was the director of player development for the Phoenix Mercury. Bringing comprehensive coaching experience and a detail-focused approach, O’Brien is expected to help the Sparks build on last season’s progress. In 2026, he will also take on the role of head coach for the Mist Basketball Club.

Coach Roberts expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, noting that Hoffman and O’Brien bring complementary skills, shared values, and a deep understanding of the WNBA. She emphasized that this unified coaching team is poised to foster a thriving culture for the players and set high standards for the 2026 season. Alongside these coaching changes, ongoing construction of new training and practice facilities shows the Sparks’ commitment to future success. The franchise hopes these staff updates will boost player development, team culture, and overall competitiveness.

Fan Take: This coaching reshuffle is an exciting development for WNBA fans as it highlights the Sparks’ dedication to evolving and winning. With experienced coaches returning and fresh talent joining, the Sparks could set a strong example of growth and competitiveness in the league, promising more thrilling seasons ahead.
