Kings’ Domantas Sabonis Sidelined for Additional 4-5 Weeks Due to Left Knee Meniscus Injury

Domantas Sabonis has been out for the Kings’ last 13 games due to a partial tear in the meniscus of his left knee and is expected to miss many more before he can come back. The Kings released a statement saying that Sabonis is currently undergoing rehab and will be re-evaluated in about four to five weeks.

About a month ago, the Kings announced that an MRI had shown a partial tear and planned to reassess him in three to four weeks. This recent update suggesting he will be sidelined for at least another month is troubling.

Sabonis has attracted more trade interest across the league than the Kings’ other key players, such as Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, but this injury news reduces the likelihood of a trade happening. He will need to demonstrate his health on the court before any deal can be completed. His next evaluation is expected in late January, with the trade deadline on February 5.

As a three-time All-NBA center, Sabonis has played only 11 games this season, having been out since November 16. During his time on the floor, he averaged 17.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, which led the league. While he is a strong offensive center, his defense remains a weakness.

Fan Take: Sabonis’ prolonged absence is a significant setback for both the Kings and potential trade suitors, highlighting how injuries can drastically alter a team’s strategy. This situation underscores the unpredictable nature of the sport and the high stakes involved in player health and trades.
