Max Verstappen: Witnessing Lewis Hamilton’s F1 Challenges Is Truly Heartbreaking

Max Verstappen has shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton’s difficulties during his time at Ferrari and the speculation around Hamilton possibly retiring from Formula 1. The seven-time world champion experienced a tough debut season with Ferrari, finishing sixth in the championship and trailing teammate Charles Leclerc by almost 100 points.

Hamilton did not achieve a single Grand Prix podium finish for the first time in his career, with Ferrari slipping from second to fourth place in the constructors’ standings. He also ended the season with his third straight failure to reach Q2 in qualifying. These disappointing results have led some to suggest that the 40-year-old British driver might retire from F1.

However, Verstappen does not believe Hamilton is ready to quit just yet. Speaking in an interview with Viaplay, Verstappen said, “It hasn’t been a good season for him at Ferrari, you can see that in everything. To be honest, it broke my heart too; it’s not a good feeling to watch. Is he going to quit? I don’t know, but he’s not giving up, so he’s definitely going to be there next year. But it’s tough to see.”

Hamilton addressed retirement rumors by reaffirming his commitment to his goal of winning an eighth world title and restoring Ferrari to its previous dominance. After the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, where he climbed from 16th to 8th place, Hamilton said, “I have nothing to say to the doubters. They’re not even at my level because no one has done what I’ve done.”

He added, “It’s the love of what I do and the love of racing. I have strong support from those around me and from my fans. It’s all about keeping my focus on my dreams. I still have dreams that I’m hopeful about, and that’s what I’m working on.”

Hamilton also revealed plans to “unplug” during the winter break. “Right now, I’m just looking forward to the holidays,” he said. “I disconnect completely, I don’t talk to anyone. No one will be able to contact me this winter. I don’t carry my phone and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m completely disconnected from the Matrix.”

Fan Take: This status update on Lewis Hamilton is crucial for racing fans as it outlines the resilience of a legend facing tough times. His determination to continue battling could inspire new rivalries and keep the sport thrilling in the seasons ahead.
