TGL’s second season officially opened on Sunday, with the defending champions of Atlanta Drive GC taking on New York Golf Club in a rematch of the first season’s final.
Notably, Atlanta side Chris Gotterup and Corey Connors came on as substitutes for Billy Horschel, as TGL announced hours before the game that Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover would be unavailable due to injury. Justin Thomas, also a member of the Atlanta team, previously announced he would take some time off from golf to recover from surgery, but he made a brief appearance on the ESPN broadcast with Matt Barry to celebrate the start of the season.

Here’s how all the actions unfolded: Remember, the first 9 holes are triples and the last 6 holes are singles matches with alternate teams.
triple
Hall 2 (stone and spire): Thailand
Hole 3 (Falled Pine): Tie
Hole 4 (Big Apple): New York wins the hole and goes up 1-0.
Hole 5 (Set in Stone): Tie
Hole 7 (Cliffhanger): Tie
Hole 8 (Flex): Atlanta wins the hole and is even at 1-1.
Hole 9 (Four-0-Four): Atlanta wins the hole with a successful hammer throw and gains two points to go up 3-1.
single
Hole 10 (The Spear), Chris Gottterp and Cameron Young: Gottterp beats Young to give Atlanta a 4-1 lead.
11th Hole (Route on the Line), Corey Connors and Matt Fitzpatrick: Connors enters the penalty area, New York throws the hammer, Atlanta declines, and the hole allows Atlanta to cut it to 4-2.
12th hole (cenote), Billy Horschel and Xander Schauffele: draw
Hole 13 (Bluebonnet), Chris Gottarup and Cameron Young: This time, Young outscored Gottarup, closing the gap to 4-3 in Atlanta’s favor.
Hole 14 (On the Rocks), Corey Connors and Matt Fitzpatrick: Fitzpatrick made a huge putt to win the hole and go into the final hole evenly at 4-4.
Hole 15 (Quick Draw), Billy Horschel and Xander Schauffele: Atlanta started the hole by throwing a hammer, with Billy Horschel sinking the putt for two points and winning the match for the hole 6-4.
You have to watch Billy Ho putt to win. The 37-foot putt was officially the second-longest putt in TGL history.
It was a thrilling end to a really fun opening match. TGL has found the perfect place within golf and sports culture as a whole. This match was a great way to start the second season as it was fun, entertaining, and extremely competitive all at once.
The fun thing we were able to see this season is that the team has its own holes. The 4th hole (Big Apple) was the New York Golf Club team hole, so it was great to see them win. Four Zero Four was Atlanta’s and not only did they win it, they won the hammer throw. Double the fun.
