NHL Buzz: Andrew Mangiapane Finds New Home as Oilers Pull Off Two Trades

Sportsnet’s Elliott Friedman revealed on a recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that Edmonton Oilers forward Andrew Mangiapane is open to waiving his no-trade clause if the Oilers find a team willing to offer him a more significant role.

Mangiapane has had difficulty fitting in with the Oilers so far, so a new team might benefit the 29-year-old forward. This season, he has appeared in 39 games, scoring five goals and six assists, with a minus-16 rating.

Although his offensive production has been low this season, Mangiapane’s past success could make him an attractive option for teams if he becomes available. Here are two potential trade destinations for the former 35-goal scorer:

Boston Bruins
The Bruins have lost their last five games and have been struggling lately, dropping to seventh place in the Atlantic Division. This could motivate them to seek trades. They definitely need another skilled winger for their middle six, and Mangiapane may catch their eye. The Bruins were reportedly interested in him during the offseason before he signed with Edmonton.

Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres are currently on a hot streak, winning their last eight games and climbing the standings. Their momentum could encourage them to make roster improvements, and they might benefit from adding another forward to their top nine. Mangiapane could be a solid addition for the Sabres.

Fan Take: This development is significant for hockey fans because it highlights the importance of fit and opportunity in a player’s success. A trade for Mangiapane could shake up team dynamics and add excitement as he seeks to revive his career with a fresh start.
