Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic Sidelined Due to Left Knee Injury

Denver Nuggets’ star player Nikola Jokic suffered an injury to his left knee late in the first half during Monday night’s game against the Miami Heat. Initially, the team listed him as questionable to return, but it was later confirmed that Jokic is out and will undergo a comprehensive evaluation the following day, according to David Adelman after the game.

Jokic got hurt after an accidental collision with teammate Spencer Jones, who was defending Jaime Jaquez Jr. Jokic awkwardly fell to the ground, clutching his left knee immediately after colliding with Jones, prompting the team’s medical staff to attend to him right away. “He instantly realized something was wrong,” Adelman shared with reporters.

At 30 years old, Jokic is having another stellar, MVP-level season. The three-time league MVP and 2023 NBA Finals MVP is averaging 29.9 points per game for the Nuggets, who currently hold a 22-9 record, while leading the league in rebounds (12.4) and assists (11.1) per game.

The Nuggets’ injury situation is already challenging this season, with Aaron Gordon sidelined due to a hamstring injury and Cameron Johnson expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Earlier this month, Christian Braun was also placed on indefinite leave because of a serious ankle sprain.

Fan Take: Nikola Jokic’s injury is a significant blow to the Nuggets and the entire NBA, given his dominant presence on the court this season. Fans should keep a close watch on his recovery, as his health greatly impacts the competitive balance and excitement of the league.
