Liverpool have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester United transfer target Carlos Baleva.
According to Anfield Watch, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield and Baleva is high on the club’s list.
According to reports, the Reds have long admired the player and were monitoring his situation in the summer.
He added that Arne Slott’s side were also prepared to make an offer of their own before Brighton’s position came forward.
Liverpool will face stiff competition from Manchester United
Manchester United have been pursuing Baleva since the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils also making an offer for the midfielder.
However, despite the player’s desire to move, the move did not materialize as Brighton valued the player highly.
United remain in the hunt for the player, with manager Ruben Amorim seeing him as the ideal player to solve their midfield problems.
Fabrizio Romano says the club remain in contact with the player’s entourage and will move quickly to sign Baleva once Brighton indicate their intention to sell the midfielder.
However, they could face unexpected competition from Liverpool, who are reportedly in the race for the 21-year-old.
Romano comments on Manchester United’s interest in Carlos Baleva
In a recent YouTube video, Romano confirmed that the Red Devils are still very interested in signing the player in the summer.
He said: “Manchester United can guarantee that Carlos Baleva’s name has not stopped being discussed in internal club discussions, because Ruben Amorim and other club officials see Baleva as the ideal solution.”
“Baleba is highly regarded by Man Utd. A January move is seen as unlikely, but Man Utd remain absolutely interested if Brighton open the door for Baleba to leave, whether in January or in the summer. Man Utd remain in contact with those close to the player.”
