Sister Troienne Aims to Keep Dominating with $175,000 Ginger Brew Victory at Gulfstream Park

Woods Lane Racing’s homebred filly Sister Troyenne aims for her fourth consecutive victory in Saturday’s $175,000 Cash Run at Gulfstream Park, facing seven other fresh 3-year-old fillies. The 15th Gingerbrew race will take place over two miles on turf, featuring alongside an 11-race card including the $175,000 3-year-old Mucho Macho Man race, a preliminary event leading up to the $1 million Curlin Florida Derby on March 28, with the first race beginning at 12:20 p.m.

Trained by Brian Lynch, Sister Troyenne started her career on dirt, placing third in a six-furlong maiden special at Ellis Park in August, before switching to turf where she secured two wins by a total of eight lengths over races at Churchill Downs and Keeneland. She made her stakes debut on Thanksgiving Day at Gulfstream during the “Wait a While” race, overcoming a shortened distance and a change from grass to the all-weather Tapeta track due to rain, winning by three lengths. Lynch expressed confidence in her ability to perform well on both dirt and turf but prefers to stick with the grass since she has shown great success there.

The Gingerbrew race has a strong track record, with half of its previous 14 winners succeeding at graded stakes, including recent champions like Millionaire Nitrogen, a top 3-year-old filly on turf and dirt with multiple grade wins. Lynch, who trained Gingerbrew herself, is optimistic about Sister Troyenne’s potential to shine in a competitive series of 3-year-old filly races this spring. Jockey Mario Gutierrez, who rode Sister Troyenne in all her previous races, will be back from post six as the favorite.

Lynch also trains William Warner’s Storm’s Wake, who is coming off a rough loss but has shown strong performances before that. Storm’s Wake will race from post one with jockey Nick Juarez aiming for a better trip on Gulfstream’s front-end style turf course. Another promising contender is Spirit Doll, a Peachtree Stables homebred, who recently won impressively on turf after two dirt starts, though she withdrew from a previous entry due to a course change. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. believes Spirit Doll has great potential on grass.

Joseph also enters R Thru of Cash, returning to turf after placing third in the Wait a While race, and REH’s Bart’s Knotty Girl, who has shown consistent top-three finishes in most races. The field is completed by Bayou Brigid, Rygina, a front-runner with a turf win, and Tide Off Time, who recently finished just outside the top three in a turf race at Aqueduct.

Fan Take: This race is a key spotlight for rising 3-year-old fillies and can shape the turf racing season with emerging talent like Sister Troyenne. For horse racing enthusiasts, events like this highlight the depth and excitement of young horses progressing into stakes competition, promising thrilling contests ahead.
