In New York, Michael Porter Jr. delivered an impressive performance against his former team, scoring 27 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and providing five assists, helping the Brooklyn Nets to a 127-115 victory over the Denver Nuggets, snapping their three-game losing streak.

The Nuggets had recently welcomed back Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun from injuries, along with Jamal Murray, who returned after a significant absence. However, they struggled without Nikola Jokic, sidelined for nearly a month due to left knee hyperextension. Murray contributed 27 points, a career-best 16 assists, and six rebounds. Gordon, returning from a 19-game absence due to a right hamstring strain, added 20 points off the bench, while Braun, who missed 23 games because of a sprained left ankle, started and scored four points.

Noah Clowney led the Nets with 22 points, with Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe starting at center in place of Nick Claxton, who was out for personal reasons. Porter, the 14th overall pick in the 2018 draft, spent six seasons with the Nuggets and was a starter on their 2023 NBA championship team before being traded to Brooklyn during the offseason. Cam Johnson achieved a career-high average of 25.8 points.

Johnson scored nine points in the second quarter, and Murray’s buzzer-beater with 0.2 seconds left gave Brooklyn a 59-52 halftime lead. The Nets quickly expanded their lead in the third quarter, making 7 of 9 three-pointers, scoring 41 points, and entering the final quarter ahead 100-84. Tim Hardaway Jr. hit two three-pointers in the fourth to reduce the deficit to 10, but Thomas closed the game with the last seven points in a 12-0 run, making the score 112-90.

Hardaway tallied 26 points, but Denver’s record fell to 1-4 during their seven-game East Coast road trip. Johnson was sidelined due to a knee injury.

Looking ahead, the Nuggets will visit Philadelphia on Monday, while the Nets will host Orlando on Tuesday.
