  • Newcastle United want Tonali to stay at the club
  • Magpie fully trusts Tonali’s abilities.

Sandro Tonali’s name has once again surfaced in transfer speculation, but Newcastle United have moved quickly to clarify their position on the Italian midfielder’s future.

According to The Chronicle, the Magpies have no intention of cashing in on one of their most important long-term assets, despite growing interest from rival clubs including Chelsea.

Tonali has endured a difficult period since joining the Premier League. However, club officials are fully convinced of his value both on and off the pitch.

Since last season, the midfielder has shown his true qualities and became one of the first names on Newcastle’s team sheet under manager Eddie Howe.

Rather than accept an offer, Newcastle are now preparing to begin talks about a new contract that would further secure his future at St James’ Park beyond his current contract, which runs until 2029.

The interest from Chelsea is understood to be genuine, with the London side closely monitoring Tonali’s situation as they continue to restructure their midfield.

Chelsea’s recruitment team reportedly praise the 25-year-old’s leadership qualities, as well as his ability to add apparent strength to the squad and alternative options on the market that would ease the burden on both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandes.

But Newcastle’s firm position means any approach will be summarily rejected.

Inside Newcastle, Tonali is seen as a key part of Howe’s long-term project.

Club officials believe his best football in England is yet to come, especially if he can enjoy consistency and stability for an extended period of time.

His ability to dictate the tempo, advance the ball under pressure and contribute defensively is perfectly in line with the club’s ambitions to establish itself as a regular contender in European football.

After losing Alexander Isak in last summer’s transfer window, the Magpies are determined to keep their best players at the club, including Bruno Guimarães, Anthony Gordon and Tonali.

Newcastle’s finances are stable and there is no pressure to sell, so an unusual offer would be needed to seal a deal, which the club believes is neither realistic nor desirable at this time.
