Tyson Fury Hospitalized and Wheelchair-Bound, Sparking Worry Before His Anticipated Comeback

At 37 years old, Tyson Fury has declared his comeback to boxing.

Following his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk at the close of 2024, Fury initially announced his retirement once more. The ‘Gypsy King’ stuck to this decision through 2025 until speculation intensified about a potential fight with Anthony Joshua. Although talks between them appeared promising, Fury confirmed his return ahead of Joshua’s tragic car accident, which tragically claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s friends.

Fury officially revealed his comeback for 2026, naming three fighters he aims to challenge. However, he soon had to withdraw from the planned fight and made a concerning admission about his health. Throughout his lengthy career, Fury has faced grueling bouts against fighters like Deontay Wilder and Usyk, and the physical toll seems to be catching up with him.

In a candid Instagram video, Fury stated, “I’ve won everything from England regional belts to world titles. It’s not about money because I’ve made a fortune—I fight for the love of the sport.” He acknowledged the risks of continued fighting, including potential long-term health consequences but emphasized his passion for the sport keeps him going.

Despite his achievements and dedication, Fury’s return comes at an unusual moment. Many British fans had hoped for a Fury versus Joshua showdown, but Joshua’s family announced his retirement following recent tragic events. This leaves Fury’s comeback with uncertain fan interest, as that bout was largely the only one that generated significant excitement.

Fan Take: Tyson Fury’s return highlights the enduring spirit and passion in boxing’s heavyweight division, even as champions face physical and emotional challenges. For fight fans, this comeback could reignite excitement and create new rivalries, keeping the sport vibrant in a critical transitional period.
