‘I like the idea…’ – Manchester United legend hints at radical ‘dream’ solution to managerial problem

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has made a radical suggestion that a dream team of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher could take charge of the club.

Former Red Devils goalkeeper Schmeichel said he would like to see these three club legends share first-team coaching responsibilities, at least until the end of the season.

United are set to sack Ruben Amorim as manager due to poor performance over the past year and appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.

After that, Man United will no doubt look to someone else as Amorim’s permanent successor.

However, Schmeichel is hopeful that Solskjaer, Carrick and Fletcher could share interim management responsibilities.

As quoted by Metro, a critic said: “We are Manchester United and there are not many people from Manchester United who come back to the club and actually go in the direction that Manchester United should go.

“I’m delighted that all three of them (Fletcher, Solskjaer and Carrick) have been named.

“So if all three of us can play through the rest of the season, it’s a dream team for me.”

He added: “We’ve gone through so many eras of managers and by the way, since Sir Alex Ferguson, only one manager has played more than 100 games, which to me is an incredible figure.”

“We’ve been through times where it didn’t work. Big, famous managers came to us with their systems and ideas and it didn’t work.

“I like the idea that, at least for the next four months, real football will be run by people who have played as players, who have good qualities as coaches and who know what Manchester United should be.”
