Report: Tottenham’s key man plans to leave club for ‘personal reasons’

Tottenham are reportedly preparing for further significant changes off the field, with co-sporting director Fabio Paratici set to leave the club for the second time just months after returning.

According to a report in The Athletic, the 53-year-old Italian is set to join Serie A side Fiorentina in early February and become head of football operations, citing personal reasons for his sudden move.

Paratici won’t be leaving anytime soon. He is expected to remain in his post alongside Johan Lange and be in charge of Tottenham through the remainder of the winter transfer window.

The window for English clubs closes on Monday, February 2nd, after which Paratici will finalize his move to Florence.

Despite his impending departure, Paratici remains active in building the team. He was instrumental in arranging the deal for Brazilian left-back Souza from Santos, who is expected to be Spurs’ first signing this month.

A transfer fee has reportedly been agreed for the highly-rated teenager, in a deal that highlights the nature of Paratici’s extensive South American scouting network.

However, the brevity of his second tenure surprised many. He only returned to North London in October 2025 after his global ban expired, but reports suggest he is returning to his homeland for “personal reasons”.

The opportunity to lead Fiorentina appears to be a major turning point for the Italian manager, as he takes on a prestigious role closer to home.

Paratici’s relationship with Tottenham has been turbulent, but he has undoubtedly had an impact.

His first role began in June 2021 as Managing Director of Football, tasked with modernizing the club’s recruitment.

This period was cut short to April 2023, when he was forced to resign following a 30-month global ban linked to financial fraud during his time at Juventus.

Despite the controversy, his fingerprints are all over Tottenham’s current starting XI.

In the first period, he was responsible for recruiting key players into the team’s core, including Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrygo Bentancur.

He also secured the contracts of Destiny Udogi and Papu Matar Sarr, identifying their talent early and securing them before their values skyrocketed.

During his suspension, he continued to work informally as a consultant for Daniel Levy, playing a role in helping Spurs sign several players, including Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson and Vicario.

His return in late 2025 was seen as a move to stabilize the club’s recruitment alongside Lange, but his second chapter at Spurs appears to be little more than a cameo.
