Now that their ship has stabilized, Liverpool will confidently aim for a top-four finish in the Premier League, while challenging for silver medals in the Champions League and FA Cup.

However, it is clear that injury problems have left coach Arne Slott’s side in dire straits, with the defense in particular missing the depth they already had.

However, FSG spent a lot of money last summer and it is clear that Liverpool will only move on to a new regular if they are sure of what they will get in return.

The backline is a top priority for slot and technical director Richard Hughes, but it remains to be seen whether the Reds will make a move for a new forward, especially with Mohamed Salah’s future uncertain.

Liverpool sign big-money forward

Less than a year ago, Salah signed a new £400,000-a-week contract with Liverpool that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.

A falling out with Slott in December left the club legend’s place in the Reds’ first team in jeopardy, but the Africa Cup of Nations came at a fortuitous time after Salah’s return against Brighton.

Still, the 33-year-old is entering the latter stages of his illustrious career and Liverpool need a replacement. All eyes have been on Antoine Semenyo, with Hughes calling for a move for the former Bournemouth star in November, but no action was taken and he now plays for Manchester City.

Perhaps FSG is just biding its time. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool may have to accelerate their interest in the 19-year-old winger, who is one of Europe’s most coveted prospects after learning Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a deal with RB Leipzig this month.

Diomande has already expressed interest in playing for his boyhood club Liverpool, but with a transfer fee thought to be around £87m to £100m, it won’t be cheap.

Still, Liverpool showed last year that they were willing to spend big on top Bundesliga talent Florian Wirths, and they could now repeat the trick.

How does Yann Diomande fit into Liverpool?

Diomande’s natural talent and adaptability make him a potential successor to Salah at Liverpool. Although he is young and still in the early stages of his professional career, he has gone from strength to strength in a short time in Germany, hailed as a “generational talent” by journalist Bence Boxak.

Despite being eliminated from the AFCON by Salah’s Egypt this week, the Ivorian has shown electric pace and attacking performance throughout the tournament, creating an average of two chances and an average of 3.8 dribbles per game, according to Sofascore.

That’s exactly the type of player Liverpool need, especially considering how combative he is. Semenyo was in the spotlight, but for reasons unknown to the public at this time, FSG and Hughes did not raid.

But when you look at these two wingers, it’s interesting to see how similar they are.

Liverpool could hit the jackpot here and sign Europe’s most talented up-and-comer, a repeat of Wirtz, to ease the frustration of missing out on Semenyo.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for a huge fee of £116m and has been one of the most scrutinized players in this year’s Premier League, which is unfair in some ways but fair in others.

But Wirtz has become dysfunctional and the 22-year-old is now starting to shine, becoming one of Europe’s silkiest and most dynamic playmakers.

Similarly, Diomande has plenty of strings to play with, and the teenage winger has the necessary qualities to perform as a full-fledged wide forward in the Premier League for years to come.

Boksak also said that Leipzig’s talent is “destined to be something special”, but it’s hard to argue that it isn’t already the case.

Even if, as in the case of Wirtz, Diomande takes time to adapt to the rigors of the English game, his outstanding quality is undeniable and, as in the case of Wirtz, he will quickly thrive in the Anfield team.

Liverpool fans are hoping that FSG will give the green light to the deal before the January transfer window ends.
