Manager Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham made a serious attempt to sign RB Leipzig sensation Yann Diomande during the January transfer window, but his bid was rejected by the German club.
The 19-year-old Ivorian winger has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted talents this season, attracting the attention of the continent’s elite with his incredible performances in the Bundesliga.

According to Romano, Tottenham tested Leipzig’s resolve with a concrete approach as they look to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the season.
However, the message from the Bundesliga side was emphatic. Yann Diomande is not for sale in January.

“Tottenham had already tried for this January slot, but it was not possible, so there will be a lot of interest in Diomande, who is one of the most interesting wingers on the market at the moment. However, in January Leipzig would like to keep the player.”
Leipzig, known for developing talent and selling them for high prices, are reportedly keen to keep hold of the winger to ensure they achieve their domestic and European goals this season.
Spurs were keen to bring him to north London immediately to help finish the season on a high, but were forced to admit that a mid-season contract was off the table.

Tottenham’s immediate pursuit has hit a wall, but competition for Diomande is expected to intensify once the summer window opens.

Leipzig are said to be valuing him at close to 100 million euros, sending a clear message that 60-70 million euros is not enough to land the young sensation.
