The Hawaii leg of the PGA Tour season is over and it’s time for perhaps the best version of the American Express we’ve ever seen to begin.

The tour lands in California this week for the second leg of the season, with top-ranked Scottie Scheffler making his debut. Five of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will compete this week, and 12 of the top 25, including Russell Henry, Rob McIntyre, Ben Griffin and Justin Rose.

There are many players with a shot at the title, but all eyes will be on Scheffler, who is coming off a six-win season and winning his fourth consecutive Player of the Year award. Scheffler, who has been ranked No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings since early 2023, has won 13 times on tour over the past two seasons, including three major championships.

True, he took a few months off. But Scheffler will open the season as the man to beat in his first start of the season.

Here’s everything you need to know before American Express.
