Arsenal could be ready to extend Gabriel Jesus’ contract for another year following his good form since returning from injury, according to reports.
The Brazil international has endured a difficult period at Arsenal since joining from Manchester City in 2022, but it remains to be seen whether he has a long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Jesus has performed well recently, scoring goals in big games against Aston Villa and Inter Milan, and Ficajes has suggested the Gunners want to keep him around for a little longer.
With Jesus’ future at Arsenal in doubt, we previously reported that clubs such as West Ham and Everton were making moves for him, but he may end up earning a contract extension.
Gabriel Jesus could still play a key role for Arsenal
It’s interesting to see Jesus working his way back into the game when it looked like it was over for him in north London, with both fitness and form having issues.
There’s no denying that Victor Goqueres’ slow start since joining last summer has probably caused Mikel Arteta to have second thoughts.
Jesus was still a world-class attacker back then, offering a different quality to Gokeres and Kai Havertz, another injury-prone forward.
Arsenal started Jesus against Inter in midweek and he quickly returned the favor with two first-half goals to seal a memorable victory.
Arsenal also definitely need to sign a new striker
However, Arsenal fans may be worried that Jesus’ contract extension means they will not move on to sign a new striker.
A lot of money has been spent on implementing Gokeres, and to be fair, there aren’t that many obvious options on the market at the moment.
So Jesus could be a decent option if he can stay healthy, but it’s a big story and the AFC will certainly have to think carefully about whether this is truly the best bet for now and the future.
