Ace Honor Upsets Favorite Bohemian in Thrilling Texas Turf Mile Showdown

In the $100,000 Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile for 3-Year-Old Horses held Saturday at Sam Houston Race Park, Pocket Ace Racing’s Ace Honor took command from the gate and maintained his lead throughout the race despite a fierce late challenge.

Under the guidance of trainer Ethan West and jockey Lane Luzzi, Ace Honor faced early pressure from Krusin Chuck during the first half-mile. He then fended off the challenge at the pole with three furlongs remaining, creating a four-length cushion just as favorite Bohemian, the 3-2 pick, launched a strong rally. Despite Bohemian’s persistent efforts and the enthusiastic riding of Ben Curtis, he couldn’t surpass Ace Honor, who held on to win by a narrow head.

Ace Honor completed the race on the turning grass course in 1:38.59, paying $6.20 to win. This marked his stakes debut since a maiden victory at the Fairgrounds in mid-December. Having won two of his four career starts, Ace Honor’s earnings now total $99,690, including a $61,890 winner’s share. The Kentucky-bred colt, by Code of Honor out of the Kitten’s Joy mare Too Cool to Dance, was purchased for $24,000 at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton June Digital Select Sale from breeder William S. Farish.

Fan Take: Ace Honor’s hard-fought victory highlights the rising talent and intense competition in turf racing for young horses, signaling an exciting future for this division. Performances like these not only ignite fan enthusiasm but also reinforce the sport’s appeal by showcasing thrilling, close finishes that keep spectators engaged.
