Caitlin Clark is set to make her return to televised basketball this weekend. NBC Sports revealed on Tuesday that Clark will feature twice as a “special contributor,” starting on Sunday during the New York Knicks vs. Los Angeles Lakers game. The Indiana Fever star will take part in pregame analysis alongside host Malia Taylor and NBA legends Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady. Clark, who won the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, is also slated to play in the Fever’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 29.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Clark said, “I’m really excited to be a part of the Basketball Night in America crew this season. Carmelo, Vince, and Tracy are legends, and Malia is a consummate professional. It’ll be great to join them several times throughout the season.” NBC executive producer Sam Flood praised Clark, calling her one of the most exciting and dynamic scorers in basketball and welcoming her to join Hall of Famers Melo, Vince, Tracy, and Reggie for the launch of Sunday Night Basketball in New York.

Flood added that Clark will feel right at home on the broadcast, stating, “She’ll be in the basketball arena, her comfort zone, discussing the sport she loves and excels at. There’s no better stage for her debut than Madison Square Garden with this talented group. The basketball court is her second home, so we are confident she’ll shine.”

Clark has already made waves in the basketball world, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer and guiding Iowa State to consecutive national championship games. As a rookie in the WNBA, she earned All-WNBA first team honors, averaged 19.2 points, and led the league with 8.4 assists per game, helping the Fever reach the playoffs. However, last season was challenging due to injuries, limiting her to just 13 games and sidelining her since mid-July.

This Sunday’s broadcast of the Knicks-Lakers game at 7 p.m. ET will mark her broadcast television debut, giving fans a chance to see her beyond the court.

Fan Take: Caitlin Clark’s entrance into basketball broadcasting is a huge win for WNBA fans, highlighting the league’s rising stars in mainstream media. Her presence helps bridge the gap between the WNBA and NBA audiences, potentially elevating the sport’s popularity and inspiring young athletes everywhere.
