UFC London Fight Card Revealed: Fans Divided, Some Call It “Trash”

UFC fans have expressed a range of reactions following the announcement of the complete UFC London fight card.

As the leading MMA organizations release their schedules ahead of the new year, UFC London consistently stands out as a marquee event for fans.

The UK has grown into a crucial market for the UFC, prompting the organization to increase the number of events in London and, more recently, Manchester.

While some British stars such as Tom Aspinall, Paddy Pimblett, and Leon Edwards are no longer fighting at the O2 Arena, there remains a wealth of British fighters to feature in the promotion’s return to London.

Originally, many had pinned their hopes on Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett to headline a pay-per-view event in the UK. However, following his recent defeat to Justin Gaethje, fans will have to settle for a regular fight night instead.

On March 21st, Premier Promotions will mark its 16th UFC event in London, spotlighting some of the region’s top MMA talent.

The full fight card was revealed this Monday afternoon, naming undefeated featherweight contenders Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev as the main event.

Initial speculation suggested this bout would determine the next challenger for featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. However, Murphy later clarified that their fight does not necessarily guarantee the winner a title shot.

This revelation has somewhat diminished the stakes of the headline fight, slightly impacting the card’s overall appeal.

The co-main event features promising featherweight Luke Riley facing Michael Aswell in only his second UFC appearance.

Additionally, fan favorite Michael ‘Venom’ Page returns to welterweight to battle Sam Patterson in a surprising all-British matchup.

Despite featuring popular fighters, the card received mixed feedback because it includes only three ranked competitors across 14 bouts.

One fan dismissed it as a “shockingly bad card,” while another praised it as “a great lineup with top fighters.”

Some questioned the decision to include MVP, wondering why he is matched against a lower-ranked opponent, and questioned if others are avoiding facing him.

Fans also voiced disappointment over Nathaniel Wood being placed on the preliminary card instead of the main card, arguing he deserves greater prominence.

Wood is scheduled to fight Rosen Keita, a highly regarded prospect who is currently on a three-fight winning streak since a loss to Mohammad Naimov in 2023.

Other fans pointed out that the UFC’s definition of a “stacked” card differs significantly from the fans’ expectations.

Fan Take: This UFC London card highlights the ongoing growth and significance of UK MMA talent, but the inconsistent rankings and fight stakes remind us that building truly blockbuster international events remains a challenge. For fans and the sport’s future, how the UFC balances emerging talent with high-profile matchups abroad will be critical to expanding MMA’s global footprint.
