Penguins’ offensive star nets first AHL goal as team cruises to 4-1 victory

Pittsburgh Penguins’ top prospect, Tanner Howe, has quickly acclimated to professional hockey, showcasing a seamless transition in just his second game. In his debut in the AHL on Sunday, he not only recorded his first assist but also scored his first goal last Wednesday during Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s 4-1 victory over the Hershey Bears. Howe’s goal came late in the third period, when defenseman Chase Pietila took a shot from the left circle, which Howe deflected into the net.

At 20 years old, Howe, who stands 5’11” and weighs 187 pounds, is recognized for his aggressive style, two-way game, and offensive instincts. Despite recovering from a torn ACL sustained near the end of last season’s WHL campaign — which required reconstructive surgery — Howe made his return to the ice in this game, contributing two points across two AHL outings and even seeing time on the penalty kill.

Known for his tenacity and offensive drive, Howe appears poised to spend the remainder of the season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton team, barring an unexpected development. His debut coincided with strong team performances, as WBS Advanced to second place in the AHL’s Atlantic Division with 64 points, just three points shy of first, though they still trail the Providence Bruins who have four games remaining.

In the recent game, teammates Aaron Hugren, Avery Hayes, and Aidan McDonough also scored for WBS, while goaltender Sergei Murashov improved his record to 17-5-0-2 with a 30-save effort, raising his season save percentage to .926. Howe has been playing alongside standout players Huegren and Hayes, reflecting his integration into the team’s core.

Fan Take: Howe’s quick impact signals bright future prospects for the Penguins and the league’s emphasis on developing young talent. His resilience and skill exemplify why hockey fans should stay excited about the sport’s evolving talent pool, as new stars continue to rise and shape the game’s next chapter.
