Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, along with other big clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
The France international has been a mainstay for Barça in recent years, but it appears the club are currently unsure of keeping him.
According to Viharges, Kounde could be available for around 80 million euros this summer, with Premier League clubs wary of his versatility, which is one of his most attractive attributes.
Kounde can play at a high level at both centre-back and right-back and could be a useful addition for the likes of Man United and Liverpool.
Interest in Jules Kounde transfer increases as Barcelona’s situation changes
Fijages claims that there has been a huge debate within Barcelona over Kounde’s future and that his recent form has made the club increasingly willing to let him go if the price is right.
The former Sevilla player could still be a top performer in his day, but perhaps there are some signs of decline, which could mean now is a good time to make some money.
Liverpool are a bit short on defense at the moment due to injuries to right-backs Conor Bradley and Jeremy Frimpong, so they could be good enough to storm into this situation.
The Reds also need to think about their central defense, with Ibrahima Konate nearing the end of his contract and Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger.
Manchester United definitely need Jules Kounde
Meanwhile, United have long believed they needed an upgrade in right-back Diogo Dalot, but it’s surprising that hasn’t happened yet.
Still, if Kounde is on the market, perhaps this is the moment for them to make a move.
It is not yet clear what will happen to Harry Maguire, who is out of contract at the end of the season, so the Red Devils could probably use more depth in the center of defence.
