Brazilian side Bahia have agreed a permanent deal with Tottenham striker Alejo Velis, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
The move is worth €9m (about £780m) plus performance-related fees and marks a significant change for the Argentine forward, who arrived in north London with high expectations just three years ago.
The agreement was finalized verbally today with Bahia coach Kadu Santoro.
Velis, who is currently back on loan in Argentina, has expressed a desire to finish his current spell at Rosario Central before moving to Brazil.
As a result, his medical and official signing is scheduled for June 2026.
Romano told X: “Bahia have agreed to sign Alejo Velis from Tottenham on a permanent transfer. Let’s go!”
“For a transfer fee of 9 million euros plus additional fees, Velis had requested to remain at Rosario until the end of his loan and then move to Bahia. A medical is scheduled for June and today he verbally agreed a contract with coach Cadou Santoro.”
Despite his great reputation, Alejo Velis failed to make it at Tottenham.
When Bellis joined Spurs for £13 million in August 2023, he was hailed as one of South America’s most ‘dynamite’ young talents.
At 6’2″, with his physicality and aerial presence, he was expected to bring a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack.
However, his time in England was marred by a lack of opportunities and unlucky timing.
He made just eight substitute appearances for the first team, scoring his only goal in a 4-2 loss to Brighton.
Loan spells with Sevilla and Espanyol also failed to spark a career in Europe, as he was unable to maintain consistent minutes in La Liga.
He is now back in Argentina, playing for Rosario Central on loan from Spurs, and it appears his time at the north London club is over.
Bellis’ All Club Career Statistics
Despite his struggles in Europe, Bellis’ overall career numbers highlight why City Football Group-backed Bahia are willing to invest in him.
He has consistently proven his worth in his home country and recently surpassed the career milestone of 34 senior goals through various stints.
