  • Liverpool will closely monitor Jeremy Jaquet’s injury
  • Reds currently facing an injury crisis

Liverpool’s future defensive reinforcement Jeremy Jacquet has caused fresh concerns at Anfield after sustaining a “painful” shoulder injury during his recent trip to Rennes.

According to the Mirror, the highly-rated French centre-back signed for the Reds in a £60m deadline day deal before being loaned back to the Ligue 1 side, but was forced off the pitch in agony during the match between Rennes and Reims.

Jacquet was putting in a great performance as the center of defense, but tragedy struck just before the 70th minute.

After the violent collision, he was seen clutching his arm and wincing in obvious pain, before eventually leaving the scene with the assistance of medical staff.

Jacquet is not expected to officially join manager Arne Slott’s side until July 1, but the newspaper says Liverpool officials will be monitoring his recovery closely.

The club see the 20-year-old as a key part of their future defence, and have made an aggressive move to sign him ahead of Chelsea.

According to reports, the defender appeared to be in significant pain in the dressing room, although the full extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed.

Reds currently facing an injury crisis

The news from France feels like a cruel déjà vu for Liverpool supporters, who are currently facing an injury crisis in their defense.

The right-back position has been especially cursed this season. Following the high-profile departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, his replacement Jeremy Frimpong has struggled to stay fit and is currently sidelined with a recurring thigh problem.

To make matters worse, Connor Bradley is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, and versatile defender Joe Gomez has just returned to light training with a groin issue.

With his backline stretched to breaking point, the last thing Arne Slott needed was news that future reinforcements had joined the injured list.
