  • Newcastle set their sights on new striker amid Walte Maid’s slump
  • “Amazing” Etta Eyon also struggled in front of the goal
        • Newcastle line up Premier League winner to replace Sandro Tonali

Newcastle United are currently leading the charge in signing the “fantastic” striker, who sporting director Ross Wilson has been eyeing for several months.

Newcastle set their sights on new striker amid Walte Maid’s slump

After scoring the derby-clinching own goal against Sunderland, Nick Woltemade hit back with a brace in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea in December, but the centre-forward’s form has been worrying since then.

The German has not scored in his last eight Premier League games, most recently failing to find the back of the net in Eddie Howe’s side’s disappointing 3-2 defeat at Brentford.

Of course, this is the 23-year-old’s first season in England, and he has performed well at times since arriving from Stuttgart, scoring nine goals in all competitions.

So it may be a little early to start thinking about signing a replacement, but the St James’ Park outfit are now setting their sights on a La Liga striker.

It follows reports from Spain that Newcastle are leading the charge in signing Levante star Carl Etta Eyon, who Wilson has been monitoring for several months, as they hope to bring in a “top class” striker during the summer transfer window.

Etta Eyon is thought to be suitable for the Premier League and is open to a move to England, suggesting a potential deal, with Levante potentially aiming to receive a modest fee of €30 million (approximately £26 million).

Interest in the centre-forward from within La Liga has cooled, suggesting Howe’s side could be well placed to compete for the title, although there is some doubt as to whether he is a suitable addition to the squad.

“Amazing” Etta Eyon also struggled in front of the goal

Like Woltemade, the 22-year-old has had a good start to the season, receiving praise from scout Jacek Kulig for his form in October.

However, the Cameroon international has struggled to find the back of the net in recent times, failing to find the back of the net in his last nine La Liga games, raising questions about whether he is ready for a move to a club like Newcastle.

He is a remarkable person…

Signing a new striker could be a smart move considering Yohan Ouissa hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, scoring just one goal in 11 Premier League appearances since his return from injury.

But even if Newcastle haven’t enjoyed their best season, they could probably attract a better player than Etta Eyon and will have to reassess their options at the end of the season.
