Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of legendary Manchester United, tried to sign an Arsenal icon that he thought was “absolutely perfect” for the Red Devils.

The iconic Scottish boss changed Man Utd during his tenure at Old Trafford, which lasted more than 26 years, working with many academy alumni, including David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Gary Neville.

Perhaps the best manager of all time, Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles and regularly rocked his United team in the transfer market.

Ferguson not only introduced the famous class of 92, but also made many wise signs in Manchester, with the last one being Arsenal’s Robin Van Persy.

The Gunners captain traded North London for Old Trafford in 2012, winning the Premier League title in his debut season. Mike Phellan’s Ferguson assistant in Manchester recently appointed Van Persy as Man UTD’s boss as one of Ferguson’s best signatures.

“Well, obviously, Van Persy was funny because he took us to the title of Ir Alex’s final season. (He) made a difference.”

Phelan, alongside Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona, Park Ji Song and Van Persy, named Van Persy as Man Wood’s five best signatures under Ferguson, but if the manager had his way he would have signed the Arsenal player shortly after his arrival at Old Trafford in the 1980s.

Ferguson tried to sign Arsenal star Tony Adams

The guy was Tony Adams, and the centre-back was down as one of the best Premier League centre-backs of all time after a 19-year career with Gunner.

The British captained Arsenal and won two Premier League titles for Arsene Wenger, and have made over 650 appearances for the club in all competitions. “Mr. Arsenal’, if Ferguson succeeds in his transfer attempt, things could be very different for Adams.

Premier League Hall of Fame Ferguson previously welcomed Adams, deeming the defender a “United player in an Arsenal shirt” and revealed that he tried to sign Adams as a teenager.

“Tony Adams was a United player in an Arsenal shirt, to be honest with you. I thought he was absolutely perfect for United. He tried a bit (to sign him) with reserves at 19, but he didn’t get a chance.”

Adams was the only player to captain the team by winning the league title in 30 years, and was also welcomed by Arsene Wenger.

“When I first came to Arsenal, I realized that Buck Four was an all-around university graduate of the arts of advocacy. As for Tony Adams, I think he is a doctor of defense. He is simply outstanding.”

Adams was a fleeing Ferguson, but the defenders he had spent years at Old Trafford, including Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Jap Stam, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanya Viddick, were very useful to himself.
