Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has appeared to subtly attack former manager Ruben Amorim while praising caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s immediate influence.

Speaking after United’s impressive 2-0 win at Tottenham, Shaw praised Carrick and his influence since taking over as caretaker manager.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Shaw was asked what had changed since Carrick took over after Amorim was sacked in January.

The England international, who has returned to his preferred left-back role after struggling in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, was glowing in his praise of the former United midfielder.

he said:

“He has brought a lot of changes, but for me the biggest change is that he knows the club very well and knows exactly what we need to win football matches, make everyone happy and enjoy what we are doing.”

“Obviously he’s won a lot when he’s been here as a player, so he understands the club and I think that’s the biggest thing for me.”

“He knows how to get the best out of his players and he really does that.

“Of course, winning a soccer match makes everyone feel good and really boosts their confidence.

“We can’t take our foot off the pedal. We just have to keep moving forward and keep pushing each other.”

Carrick’s immediate impact embarrasses Amorim era

The statistical difference between the two managers is nothing short of astonishing.

Michael Carrick registered four wins in just four games, including big performances against Manchester City and Arsenal, equaling Amorim’s all-time record winning streak of 47 games in charge.

Perhaps the most embarrassing thing for the Portuguese manager is the return of Coby Mainu.

The 20-year-old academy graduate was famously shunned by manager Amorim, who reportedly felt the midfielder lacked the physical attributes to withstand a demanding system.

But under Carrick, Mainoo looked reborn, controlling the midfield with the same composure that first earned him England honors.

With United back in the hunt for Champions League qualification and the atmosphere at Carrington much improved, Carrick appears to have brought a winning mentality back to the club.
