Russell Martin’s days with the Rangers are long gone. Ibrox is now the home of Danny Rolle, who has transformed the Glasgow team since his arrival.

They were sitting deep in the middle of a plain table when the 36-year-old came through the door. They are now challenging for the Premiership title again. There is a possibility that he will become the first player since Steven Gerrard to win the league.

Since Christmas, Gers have only lost once, 3-1 to Porto, and it’s fair to say that things are looking a lot more rosy now, which is nothing to be ashamed of.

The high point of the Rohr administration undoubtedly came on Sunday. The Light Blues were playing against a second-division opponent, but they defeated Queen’s Park 8-0. New signing Andreas Skov-Olsen has not been on the scoresheet and is not a long-term concern, but he needs to start building sharpness in his game now.

Skov Olsen’s performance since signing with Rangers

It’s fair to say the Dane had a hit-or-miss start to his Ibrox career after joining Rangers as a landmark signing during the winter transfer window.

He started in the Premiership games against Dundee and Hibernian and scored his first goal for the club in the 5-1 win over Killie. During that game, it felt as if the winger had arrived in Scotland and started to show why he is such an exciting signing.

However, he failed to score or assist in an 8-0 win over the weekend, raising further question marks about his current level of play.

However, now is the time to be patient. It’s very rare for a player to hit the ground running right away in the winter, and it would be acceptable for him to need a period of games to get back up to speed.

In fact, Weidman hasn’t played much soccer this season. Before moving to Scotland, the 26-year-old had played just eight games and 361 minutes in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg. He had not played more than 45 minutes in a game since September.

As for Skov Olsen, things are starting slowly, with him having most of a preseason experience now, but it would be surprising if he doesn’t start hitting the ground running in the coming weeks, emulating the great Rangers forwards of the past.

Think Ryan Kent, Malik Tillman, and Vaclav Cerny these days. All of these are the gold standards that Skov Olsen should aim for. They would probably prefer that to Amad Diallo’s spell.

Kent, Tillman, Cerny and others have now left Ibrox and it’s safe to say they have enjoyed and endured very different careers since then.

Tillman has moved up the level significantly and currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, while Kent has not been with the club since 2025 after a short spell with the Seattle Sounders.

But for one Amado, his career has reached stratospheric heights since leaving Glasgow and he is now arguably better than all three of these names.

Amad, who signed for Manchester United in a huge £37m deal as a teenager, was loaned to Rangers at the end of the 2021-22 season as part of his development. The spurt garnered attention, but the numbers weren’t all that impressive.

He left Ibrox with no assists and just three goals in 13 games. He scored on his debut. In fact, it took him just five minutes to find the back of the net. He promises great things and, although he failed to fulfill his potential north of the border, he is now flashing that potential at Man United.

Amad’s journey to becoming a regular in the Premier League in England has been quite impressive. Despite playing as a right wing-back last season, he was hailed by Statman Dave as “the best player under coach Ruben Amorim” during Portugal’s early reign.

Touted as an even more “explosive” winger by the same sources, the Ivorian has only gone from strength to strength in recent years, and his numbers far exceed those of Strand Olsen, no matter how good the Dane is.

Since Michael Carrick returned to Old Trafford, he has once again played more football forward. He played a key role in each of the last four games, playing as a right-winger, making 3.5 dribbles per game and taking two shots per game.

To put these numbers into context, Skov Olsen has only registered one dribble per game and 1.3 shots per appearance in the Scottish Premiership.

Few would have expected Amad to become a United regular after his loan spell in Scotland, but he is now one of United’s most exciting players, finishing with 11 goals and 10 assists last season.

He is a very good player and one that the Rangers would dream of owning right away. Still, there’s still time for Skov Olsen to develop and make a positive impression.
