  • Gunners focus on reinforcements in title race
  • ‘World class’ Tonali likely to sign statement
        • Arsenal consider signing Arteta’s new signing Xhaka for £100m

Arsenal are now expected to make a £40m bid for the ‘world-class’ star, with Mikel Arteta a big fan.

Gunners focus on reinforcements in title race

The race for the Premier League title is heating up and despite Thursday night’s 1-1 draw with Brentford, the Gunners remain in good form, four points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta was pleased with his team’s performance in the second half despite a slow start, saying: “We struggled for the first 10-15 minutes, but then we picked up.

I think in the second half we started to dominate the game with our pace, our intention and the amount of situations we created, but in my opinion we didn’t really score often enough or take too many chances. ”

However, considering the balance of the match, Arteta’s side may have been a bit lucky to pick up a point, given that they finished the game with an xG of just 0.60, compared to the hosts’ 1.51.

Winning a first Premier League title in over 20 years is undoubtedly the north Londoners’ biggest priority right now, but they are also making plans for the summer transfer window.

According to a report from SportsBoom, Arsenal are expected to make a hefty bid of £40m for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, which seems quite low considering the player joined St James’ Park from AC Milan for £55m in July 2023.

Despite Stan Kroenke and co’s spite, manager Eddie Howe is determined to keep the midfielder, with previous reports suggesting a price tag in the region of £100m may be more realistic.

Interest in the Italian continues, with Manchester United and Juventus also interested given his performances in recent years.

‘World class’ Tonali likely to sign statement

Arteta is known to be a big fan of central midfielders and it’s clear why the 25-year-old has adapted well to life in England, scoring four goals and providing two assists in the Premier League last season.

Not only that, the Italian international is also proven at Champions League level, with some impressive performances in the competition during his time at AC Milan.

Hailed as “world class” by journalist Mark Douglas, Tonali could be a worthy signing for Arsenal, but given his importance to Howe, who has played in every Premier League game this season, it seems unlikely Newcastle would consider a £40m move.
