Tiger Woods says he has a chance. … His chance to play at the Masters in April, which he has won five times, most recently in 2019, is the first men’s major of the year.

Woods joined Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman at the CBS booth during the third round of the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour’s signature event that he hosts, on Saturday at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Woods, 50, appeared extensively on the broadcast, spending nearly 20 minutes with Nantz, the 2008 Masters winner, and Immelman. Woods has not played in an official tournament since the 2024 British Open. He underwent disc replacement surgery, his seventh lower back surgery, in October. Last March, he also underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.

Tiger Woods, host of the Genesis Invitational Tournament, speaks to the media during a press conference at Riviera Country Club.

“And of course (Rory) McIlroy will be there to guard, Scottie (Scheffler) will be there,” Nantz told Woods about the Masters. “Do you know anyone else who might play this year?”

“I know you will Get used to it “There we are,” Woods said with a smile, “We’re going to open Patch and Trev and I are going to have a nice dinner.”

Woods’ course design firm and Augusta National Golf Club collaborated to renovate the local municipal golf course, affectionately known as “The Patch” or “Cabbage Patch” due to its rough conditions. Woods is also on the list for the Champions Dinner, a Tuesday night tradition for past green jacket winners, which will be hosted by defending champion Rory McIlroy.

In a press conference Tuesday ahead of the Genesis Invitational, Woods said he is back to full shooting and while there is no target date for his return, he did not rule out playing in the Masters. When asked if he wouldn’t be able to participate in the Masters, he simply answered “no” and smiled.

He continued to answer Nantz with reservations.

“Oh, of course I know a lot of people who play,” Woods joked.

Immelman cut to the chase.

“Is there any chance of getting out of there?” Immelman asked Woods.

“That’s true,” Woods said.
