  • Newcastle United are looking for attacking reinforcements

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing an ambitious summer move for Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez, with the Colombian forward emerging as a key transfer target for Eddie Howe’s side.

According to journalist Sebastian Vidal, the Magpies are looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2026-27 season and have begun exploring the possibility of a deal that could reach £50m.

Newcastle face increasingly stiff competition in their bid to qualify for Europe.

Inconsistency throughout the season has highlighted areas where the team may need reinforcements, and it is believed the club’s reinforcements are prioritizing the addition of a prolific striker.

Suarez’s great season in Portugal

The striker had an excellent season with Sporting CP, quickly establishing himself as one of the most productive forwards in Portuguese football.

Across all competitions this season, the Colombian international has scored 29 goals and provided six assists in 37 appearances, figures that have attracted the attention of clubs across Europe.

Suarez signed Suarez from Spanish side Almeria last summer and the impact was immediate. The 28-year-old has a combination of physical strength and intelligent movement inside the penalty area, making him a constant threat to opposition defenders.

His contract with the Portuguese club runs until 2030, but reports say Suarez is open to considering a move to a bigger league in Europe if the right opportunity presents itself.

Newcastle’s interest in Suarez reflects the club’s desire to improve their attacking capabilities.

Howe’s side have shown a high level of quality this season, but have struggled for consistency in front of goal.

Some of Newcastle’s recent attacking players have yet to fully live up to expectations.

Players such as Anthony Elanga and Nick Woltemade have found it difficult to have a sustained impact on the game, while forward Yoan Wissa has endured injuries and struggled to reproduce his previous goal-scoring form.

These challenges have led Newcastle’s recruitment team to evaluate alternative options that can provide a reliable goal threat.
