  • ‘Incredible’ hole could upgrade Kerkes
        • Contract agreed: Celtic sensation opts to join Liverpool, contract signing date revealed

Liverpool are currently in the race to sign the Premier League’s ‘incredible’ £70m star, in a blow to Newcastle United.

Reds aim to strengthen defense

The Reds looked to strengthen their backline last summer with the arrival of Milos Kerkes as long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, and the Scot has been impressed with the 22-year-old.

Mr Robertson said: “Milos (Kerkes) is a great left-back. Last season he had an unbelievable season at Bournemouth. It took him a while to settle down at the big club. The club has to move on. The players who have been here for a long time are not getting any younger. You have to accept it. I have been competing all my career.”

However, the Hungarian has not been at his best in recent weeks, posting a SofaScore match rating of 6.3 in the 1-0 Champions League defeat against Galatasaray, the lowest of any player.

Robertson is yet to sign a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the end of the season, so bringing in a new left-back this summer could be important for Arne Slott’s side, who are currently in the race to sign Newcastle star Lewis Hall.

FSG have made a sneaky move to sign a left-back with a price tag of between £65m and £70m, but there could be stiff competition for his signature, with Manchester City, Arsenal, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund also named as potential suitors.

However, a deal could be difficult as manager Eddie Howe views the Englishman as one of his most important players, and the Magpies are in a good position in negotiations given his contract runs until 2029.

‘Incredible’ hole could upgrade Kerkes

Football writer Mark Carruthers is a big fan of the 21-year-old and believes he should be in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI for this summer’s World Cup.

The youngster averaged 2.5 tackles per 90 in the Premier League compared to Kerkes’ 1.8. On the other hand, while the Hungarian player averaged only 0.5 successful tackles, he averages 1.8 successful dribbles per 90 attempts, and continues to show his ability.

Hall has proven to be a potential addition to Kerkes and Liverpool should aim to make a move this summer, but with Champions League qualification still at stake and rivals Man City and Arsenal interested, it may be difficult to win the race for his signature.
