  • Tottenham considering ‘great opportunity’ to replace Tudor

Cristian Romero has vowed to give 200 per cent to Tottenham’s seven remaining ‘finals’ matches to avoid a disastrous Premier League exit.

Tottenham pushed further into the relegation zone due to Forest

Spurs’ hopes of staying in the table suffered a crushing blow on Sunday as they suffered a demoralizing 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, dropping them to 17th place and raising the possibility of their first relegation since 1977.

Tottenham’s Premier League winless record now stands at 13 games, and pre-match optimism has been replaced by a sense of inevitability after another miserable defeat, despite fans flooding the streets of the N17 to welcome the team bus to the stadium.

Romero said, “It’s a difficult day for everyone, but first I want to talk about my fans. Thank you for today and for always being with me.”

“They gave us great support but it’s a bad day for us. It’s over and the most important thing is to understand the situation.

“It’s not easy, but the most important thing is to reach the national team and return here for the last seven finals.

“I promise to give 200 percent to everything. It’s not easy for me, but we all have to stick together. Today is a bad day, but we will go again.”

Much-needed momentum for Spurs was built with a spirited point at Liverpool and a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, boosting confidence that a first league win in 2026 against relegation rivals Forest is within sight.

An estimated 10,000 Tottenham fans packed onto the High Road, creating a partisan atmosphere before kick-off, which permeated the ground and led to an initially strong first half.

Richarlison’s header went wide and Forest forward Igor Jesus deflected his header onto his own crossbar, but despite Jesus’ powerful punch in stoppage time before half-time and Matthijs Tell’s counterattack with a rounded shot that hit the crossbar, Spurs collapsed after the break.

A double change for Igor Tudor didn’t help, but too many home players switched off for Morgan Gibbs-White’s second goal after 62 minutes, and Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal in the 87th minute gave Forest an important victory, causing a mass sending off before full-time.

Romero told SpursPlay: “The first 45 minutes of the game we were good, we were good on the pitch, we didn’t concede anything, but we conceded a really poor goal in the last minute, but it’s over.”

Tottenham suffered their 10th home league defeat of the season, with some of the goodwill fading away before kick-off, but further plans will be put in place by fan groups ahead of their next N17 home match against Brighton on April 18.

Captain Romero added: “It’s unbelievable, especially after this season is over.Honestly, I’m the first one to take responsibility, but the fans are grateful.”

“Thank you for every game. The support has been great and (now) we (need to give) more, just the players, the staff. I’m going to go back especially for the first final and the last seven finals.”

Tottenham considering ‘great opportunity’ to replace Tudor

According to Football Insider, Tudor currently faces sacking due to the international break and Spurs bosses are “accelerating plans” to sign a replacement for the Croatian.

The original plan was to keep the 47-year-old until the end of the season before replacing him this summer, but journalist Pete O’Rourke said the club saw the two-week break as a “perfect opportunity” to land an immediate replacement.

“For Tudor now, it’s every game for him and Tottenham. Speculation about his future continues.”

“Things didn’t go well for Tudor and Tottenham on Sunday, so that pressure will increase even more.

“Obviously we’re on international break at the moment. It’s the perfect opportunity and gives Spurs time to make changes if that’s what they want.”

Tottenham head to Sunderland after the international break, who will be brimming with confidence after a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the Tyne Wear derby against Newcastle.
