  • Enzo Fernandes refuses to close ties with Real Madrid
  • Chelsea preparing to offer big contract to fend off interest

Chelsea vice-captain Enzo Fernandes has failed to commit to the club beyond the summer, sparking fresh uncertainty over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Upon arriving in Argentina for international duty, the midfielder addressed the growing rumors linking him with a high-profile move to Real Madrid.

The speculation follows a disappointing period for the Blues, who were recently knocked out of the Champions League by PSG.

Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League and face a battle to secure European football next season, but Fernandes’ latest comments have Europe’s elite clubs on high alert.

When asked about the reported interest from the Spanish giants, Fernandes was quick to clarify that no formal talks were taking place, but notably left the door open to a possible exit after the 2026 World Cup.

Fernandes said (via Fabrizio Romano):

“No, to be honest, nothing. Zero speaks. Right now we’re focused on Chelsea and the rest of the last few games of the season. Then we’ll see once the World Cup is over.”

This “wait and see” approach signals a significant change from the club’s official stance.

According to reports, the midfielder is keen to play in the Champions League, but Chelsea are on the verge of missing out on the competition for the second year in a row.

Chelsea preparing to offer big contract to fend off interest

Despite the player’s ambiguous comments, Chelsea leaders remain determined to preserve their prize money.

Fernandes currently has a huge contract that runs until 2032, giving the club significant leverage in potential negotiations.

As well as Real Madrid, the 25-year-old is also being pursued by PSG and German giants Bayern Munich.

However, Chelsea are reportedly preparing a record contract extension to fend off that interest.

The proposed deal would see Fernandes earn more than £400,000-a-week, potentially making him the club’s highest-paid player.
