Manchester City could be increasingly open to selling Rodri to Real Madrid, it has been reported, as new contract talks are on hold.

Fabrizio Romano linked Rodri with Real Madrid in a recent post on his Instagram, and speculation continues to ramp up heading into the summer.

The Spain international himself has not ruled out a move to the Bernabéu, playing down any talk that his past links with Atlético Madrid could prevent him from playing there.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City and Rodri are looking increasingly open to going their separate ways this summer.

What Rodri said about his move to Real Madrid

“There’s still one year left on my contract. There will come a time when we have to sit down and talk things over,” Rodri said, as reported by Sky Sports.

“There are other players who have followed that path[between the two Madrid clubs]. Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best club in the world. They have taken that path.”

“I want to go back (to La Liga), yes, of course. For me, La Liga is the starting point. I’m still chasing it, although not as much as before. But now I’m very happy here (in the Premier League).”

Manchester City planning Rodri’s replacement

TEAMtalk also claims that City are already considering big names to replace Rodri, including Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.

Of course, the 29-year-old is not the type of player to be replaced immediately after a fantastic career at the Etihad Stadium.

Rodri’s outstanding performances saw him win four Premier League titles, the Champions League and even the prestigious Ballon d’Or award during his time at City.

If he were to leave Manchester this summer, he would have a big job to do and it would certainly be a very exciting signing for Real Madrid.
