Gary Woodland will be a fan favorite at Memorial Park on Sunday, looking for his first win since the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
Woodland enters Sunday’s Texas Children’s Houston Open with a one-stroke lead over Nikolai Huygaard. Defending champion Min Woo Lee and Michael Thorbjornsen are tied for third place, but will start Sunday’s final round six strokes behind Woodland and five strokes behind Heugaard.

Jason Day and Sam Stephens are tied for fifth place at 11 under, seven strokes behind Woodland.
Sunday’s final round at Memorial Park is set to be a showdown between Woodland and Hoygard, with several chasers hoping to advance in the standings and capitalize on Sunday’s meltdown, which was common on the PGA Tour last month.
The key for Woodland, who has battled PTSD since undergoing brain surgery in 2023, will be to remain calm and ride the roar of his fans to a monumental victory.
“There’s no question about it, I feed off of it,” Woodland said Friday of the fan support at Memorial Park. “I feel like we’ve had a lot of support, just like any other week. It feels like we’re playing at home. The fans have been great. You need that energy to get through the day. It definitely helps. I hope that carries over into this weekend as well.”

After shooting a 65 in the third round, Woodland looked ahead to the final 18 holes and what might lie ahead if he could outdo Heigaard on Sunday.
“I just have to take a deep breath,” Woodland said Saturday. “Take it easy tonight, recover and rest. Don’t get ahead of yourself tomorrow. I’m here. I put myself in this position for a reason, so take a deep breath and keep doing what you’re doing.”
A win on Sunday will also earn him a $1.782 million winner’s check. The total prize pool for the 2026 Texas Children’s Houston Open is $9.9 million.
